April 2021, a little over four months in to living in our new space, we got a call from a neighbor asking us if our cat was missing. We checked and everyone was indoors. The following day a friendly tabby was wandering around our place. Michael sat down in the back and this cat climbed onto his lap. After checking for a chip at the vet, and no responses from posted signs and online notices, we named her Rey. The force was strong in her.
We weren't ready to integrate Rey indoors, so the garage became a bit more cushioned. This was all fine-and-well with Rey. Turns our she has an affintiy for sleeping in cars. So, we keep a window rolled down in the BMW 2002 - now known as Suite 2002. She also will greet anyone in our driveway, especially trucks. We have to warn visitors to check their passenger seats before taking off. During the colder months she will cuddle on Michael's desk in the shop. There's a heater, computer, and hands for good jowl rubs.
Later in August of 2021, we saw a cat fleeting across one of the fields. He saw us and we all stopped and made eye contact. Turned out to be a young feral cat. After a month of coaxing with food, we were able to get him into a carrier and over to the local vet. Once neutered and vaccinated, he came home to join Rey in her garage apartment. They took it slowly, but after sharing a few catches (mouse/mole/vole/gopher) Rey relaxed. Their bond has grown over the years, and Jules is vigilent to keep Rey safe. If she hasn't come in yet at night, he will keep watch until she does.
