The gardening literature says that there are growing zones. But each year that we've been in Shasta County (at about 500 ft. elevation) the temperatures and rainfall have been different. Even with greenhouses, irrigation, and purchased soil some seeds just do better than others. We've learned the power of diatomaceous earth, and some of the local beetles and wasps, to manage destructive insects. We are learning and harveting more each year.
